As the contract between Cognizant and Google expired, YouTube Music employees who had been subcontracted through Cognizant were laid off. The employees had been requesting more pay and perks for a year.
Jack Benedict, a YouTube data analyst, published a video on the social networking platform X that highlighted the issue. The title of the film claimed, "This is the exact moment our coworkers found out we had been laid off while speaking in front of the city council."
According to the video, the YouTube Music team has fewer than 50 employees (almost 43 contractors). The workers were laid off with no previous notice, and the layoffs were completely unexpected for the staff.
Both Google and Cognizant claim that the contracts of their contractual workers expired on the specified date, which they regard as a natural termination. Furthermore, Google maintained that it took no responsibility for the employment losses.
