Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has undertaken a significant recruitment drive, welcoming a total of 10,000 freshers, as confirmed by several colleges to Moneycontrol. This development serves as a much-needed boost for both educational institutions and students amidst a backdrop of dwindling hiring trends across major players in the information technology sector.
Last month, TCS announced the commencement of fresher recruitment through the National Qualifier Test (NQT), a cognitive assessment platform developed by TCS iON. The NQT, utilised by Tata Group entities like TCS and Titan, as well as other firms like Happiest Minds, serves as a standardised measure of candidates' cognitive abilities and skill proficiencies.
The application deadline for the recruitment drive was 10 April, with tests scheduled for 26 April. The recruitment process encompasses two phases, with the first targeting "priority colleges" and the second open to a broader pool of candidates. Notably, colleges have indicated that the NQT and campus placements are synonymous.
TCS has delineated three distinct categories for recruitment, namely Ninja, Digital, and Prime, offering varying annual packages ranging from Rs 3.36 lakh to Rs 9-11.5 lakh. While Ninja profiles primarily entail support roles, Digital and Prime profiles are geared towards development roles.
Industry experts, such as V Samuel Rajkumar, Director of Career Development Centre at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), have lauded TCS's initiative as a timely and favorable move amidst prevailing circumstances. Rajkumar anticipates a favorable outcome for students, expecting a substantial number of placements with TCS across colleges.
Echoing TCS's earlier announcement of plans to onboard 40,000 freshers in FY24, the company's recent recruitment drive marks a significant step in this direction, following a notable reduction in employee additions during FY23 compared to the previous fiscal year.
