Tata Electronics is set to significantly expand its iPhone assembly hub located in Koothanapalli, Hosur, Tamil Nadu, with plans to increase its workforce by 175 per cent, soaring from 20,000 to 55,000 employees, as reported by Business Standard.
This expansion comes amidst rumors of Tata Electronics being in talks to acquire Pegatron's facility near Chennai.
Last November, Tata Electronics made headlines by acquiring Wistron's domestic operations for $125 million, becoming the first Indian company to manufacture iPhones. Both Wistron and Pegatron are Taiwan-based Apple contract manufacturers.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Tata Electronics is currently engaged in discussions with Pegatron, Apple's contract manufacturer, to acquire a controlling stake in its India-based factory.
The Pegatron facility in India is responsible for manufacturing iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, although demand for these models has begun to decline. However, both the Pegatron and Tata's Wistron facilities are expected to benefit as Apple expands its operations in India.
