Sikkim To Regularise 20,000 Temporary Employees

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced the details of the Regularisation Policy 2024 at the State Level Sonam Lochhar celebration. The initiative, announced this week, aims to fill 20,000 job vacancies across multiple categories by 25 February 2024.

Tamang stressed that the policy is a law, with a 31 December 2023 execution deadline. Workers who complete the required service term by this date are eligible for regularisation under the new policy.

This policy significantly changes the former eight-year tenure limit, decreasing it to four years to line with changing demands. The Chief Minister emphasised the government's proactive approach to tackling this issue, stating that planning has been done to ensure a smooth transition of temporary staff into permanent posts.

A thorough plan has been developed to control staff pay while also preserving the state's financial stability and sustainability. The announcement has allayed opposition parties' anxieties, offering great relief to the 20,000 temporary employees who are eagerly awaiting a decision on their job status. The administration faces pressure to fulfil its commitment and address the issue of temporary employment.
