Red Cross To Cut 1500 Jobs In Next 12 Months

Seems like the global economic downturn has hit international humanitarian organisations as well. The International Committee of Red Cross on Wednesday said that it will cut around 1,500 jobs over the coming 12 months.

The organisation hopes to reduce the harsh impact of mass layoff by reducing positions first and foremost through a recruitment freeze and natural turnover.

The current global economic environment has impacted the funding environment for humanitarian programmes. Several end-of-year pledges did not come through simultaneously the costs also increased leading to a deficit of approximately 140 million CHF for the Red Cross.
