Nithin Kamath’s ‘Strict No’ To Hire IIT & IIMs Talents At Zerodha

Amidst the cut-throat recruitment competition to hire top talent from the country’s leading institutes, Zerodha’s founder Nithin Kamath in his recent podcast said graduates from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMS) are more focused on their career growths rather than a company.

He added that hiring fresh talent from the IITs and IIMs is a ‘strict no’ at their company as they belong to an environment that only thinks about an individual’s personal growth and such culture doesn’t fit their bills.

He emphasised that for a financial company like them, a candidate’s passion matters more than his education from a reputed institute.

For us, passion plays a key role and we make sure our core team is working passionately for the cause, the founder added.

Commenting on India’s start-up culture, Kamath said, the pass outs from IIT and IIM want to jump from point A to point B rather quickly and don’t focus on growth.

He clarified, he doesn’t oppose the idea of hiring IITians and IIM graduates if they fulfill “Zerodha’s criteria”.

He stressed, “We welcome you if you want to get up with a passionate approach every day and look forward to working for a better business”.

Zerodha is a Bengaluru-based financial company founded in 2009 by Nikhil and Nithin Kamath providing brokerage-free equity investments, institutional broking, retail, currencies, and commodities trading.
