Air India Lays Off 180 Non-Flying Staff

Following Tata Group's takeover in January 2022, Air India has initiated workforce adjustments, resulting in the termination of approximately 180 non-flying employees.

The airline clarified that less than one per cent of its staff were let go due to their inability to participate in voluntary retirement schemes or reskilling opportunities. As part of organisational restructuring efforts, employees in non-flying roles have been reassigned based on operational needs and individual qualifications.

Despite not disclosing the exact number of layoffs, reports suggest that around 180 employees have been affected. Air India Express, another carrier under the group, employs over 6,200 individuals, while Air India's staff exceeds 18,500.

Prior to Tata Group's acquisition, Air India had a total workforce of 12,085, including contract workers.
