If not in the current profession, you would be?
Probably a commercial pilot. Since childhood, I aspired to fly across new lands, and bask in the thrill of a job that requires great leadership qualities, skill to handle pressure, and left no room for error.
One book to read when you want to motivate yourselves?
The Hard Thing about Hard Things by Ben Horowitz, one of Silicon Valley’s most respected and experienced entrepreneurs. Incidentally, I was told to read this book by the author himself!
What is the best advice you have received from your boss?
Senior entrepreneurs and industry veterans have always told me to stick by three things-Patience, perseverance and positive persistence that does not lead to your undoing. Additionally, it’s extremely important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
What’s your fitness mantra?
Brisk walking and swimming, these are two go-to workouts which I frequently indulge in to keep myself fit, active and focussed.
If your life was to be turned into a movie who would you like to play your part?
From Bollywood, it would have to be Salman Khan for the sheer confidence and charisma he brings on-screen. From the west, I think Robert Downey Jr. would do a good job.
One habit you abide by?
To get at least 8 hours of sleep in a day! I think in today’s fast-paced world, we have criminally ignored the importance of a fitful sleep for our well-being.
Luck or Hard Work, what do you think weighs more in defining a successful person?
It is a combination of both. While hard work is extremely important, as an entrepreneur, I believe being at the right place at the right time surely helps in accelerating one’s journey towards success.
One best decision you ever made?
Not joining my father’s company. The decision has given me my identity, and taught me everything about business, inter-personal relationships and life in general.
What do you resort to during a decision-making dilemma?
I plan a quick, solo getaway. Being away from familiar faces and situations helps me to get a perspective and refocus on my priorities.
What has been your biggest achievement?
Establishing GoWork undoubtedly! When I started, the concept of co-working was almost unheard of in India. It feels great to have been a part of not only an organization, but an entire business segment from its nascent stage to its current period of robust growth and expansion.
One experience that has changed your life forever?
I almost lost my life after suffering a racial attack in USA. This happened in September 2009. I was lying unconscious on the roadside for almost 40 minutes. Fortunately, some locals helped me and I was well-attended by the medical service providers. This incident helped me to identify the inherent contrast that existed in humans all over the world, and reaffirmed my belief in our essential goodness.
Who is your go to person in every situation and why?
My mother. She has always been a pillar of strength for me, advising me from time to time during difficult phases of life. On the professional front, I always enjoy a good, informal chat with successful professionals and entrepreneurs who started their journey from scratch and yet have a lot of conviction and do not fear taking risks to support the ideas they believe in.
