Last year, Olive India, an Indian subsidiary of Ireland-based Olive Group, laid off a total of 55 employees from its two wings — Upskill and MyKademy — citing redundancy. This year, 12 employees have received notices, while 24 others have received phone calls from HR demanding resignation. The company is Olive's only Indian subsidiary, having begun operations at Technopark in 2012.
At the time of Technopark's launch, 200 people were hired. Employees are now panicking due to the difficulty of changing jobs on short notice.
The company informed employees about the recent changes and why these steps were necessary in an official email. According to the email, it has made significant investments in its Olive VLE, which has now reached a mature stage. Because the product's development stage is complete, the company must now reallocate resources. Certain roles have been identified as being obsolete.
Furthermore, the email stated that all affected employees will be relieved of their duties on December 29, 2023.
This is the third round of layoffs at the Olive Group in two years, affecting 150 employees across three entities in the Indian unit — MyKademy, UBI Academy, and Upskill.
